Today, I have completed the first of four goals in my IICT Part 2 additional qualifications course. The one significant idea that has continually occurred to me is the engagement that technology brings to the classroom. As a Grade 8 teacher, I am always looking for new and adaptive teaching methods and I enjoy having my students use technology to demonstrate their learning. They become so engaged with what they are doing and provide leadership for them. The opportunities to explore specific technology resources for example, Bitstrips, Web 2.0 Tools including Edmodo, Smart Ideas 5, has contributed to my learning as I will be able to take the resources back to my classroom and put them into action come the new school year. Often times as teachers time is such a critical element that there seems to never be enough time to explore new opportunities for our students. Being able to interact with and learn about these resources that are applicable to my classroom has been wonderful and allowed me to learn the tools and put them into action. The community of learners that is generated within the discussion forum has been great. Professional knowledge is gained through learning from colleagues as they are a wealth of knowledge and have great practical classroom ideas. Reflective professional practice is ongoing as teachers are able to adapt and revise their classrooms as a result of the discussions and the ongoing reflections. My future steps are to continue to explore classroom technology that is available and take these tools back to the classroom to try. Furthermore, with Special Needs in Technology as an upcoming learning goal, I will strive to incorporate my experiences through my Spec. Ed Part 1 and 2 AQ courses.
